How to Create Categories
- Click on the Student Portal icon
- Click on Categories under the News section
- Click on the yellow Add New Category button
- Give the category a Name
- Select a Parent Category, if applicable
How to Create News Posts
- Click on the Student Portal icon
- Click on Items under the News section
- Click on the yellow Add New button
- Give your post a Title
- Click Add Image to upload a featured image
- Use the Content box to build out the content of your post
- Check the box for the Category
- Click on the yellow Publish button

How to Create Categories
In your student portal, you can add News posts to update your students on things going on at your facility. News posts will show up in the center of your student portal dashboard as well as in the News section.
Before you start creating individual posts, it's essential to create Categories to sort your posts first.
To create a new category, first, click on the Active Vault icon and then select Categories under the News section.
On this page, you can view and edit all of your current categories. To create a new category, click on the Add New Category button.
When creating your new category, you'll first need to give it a Name. The name you provide will generate the Slug, so you do not need to enter anything in the slug field. If you want to create a hierarchy of categories, you can select a Parent Category for your new category. You don't have to worry about the Description category, as it does not show with ActiveVault's current interface.
Once you are done setting up your category, click on the Add New Category button.
On the News page of your student portal, members will see a list of the categories. They can click on the name of one of the categories to see all of the posts in that category.
How to Create News Posts
Now that you have categories for your News sections, you can start making posts.
To access your News Items page, click on the Active Vault icon and then select Items under the News section.
On the items page, you can see all of your current news posts.
To create a new post, click on the Add New button.
When creating your news post, first you will give it a Title.
Next, you can add a featured image to show up next to your post. To upload your featured image, click on the Add Image button. The recommended size and format is 800x600 JPG.
The Content box is where you will build out your post. You can use the Add Media button to add photos or videos to your post. You can also use the text editors at the top of the box to format your post.
Once your news post is formatted and ready to go, you will select which category it goes in by checking the box next to the category you want.
Now that you are ready to publish your post to your website, click on the Publish button for your post to go live.
